Jenkins back to best

Terry Jenkins has posted his first win this season after a stellar performance last year despite ongoing trouble with his achilles tendon. Terry has been a top runner with the club over many years but was forced to take a break until recently due to this issue. Last year in the clubs second race he finished in second place, followed by two first placings in the subsequent two races. By week four he placed second again, though by the fifth race was unable to finish as his achilles started playing up.

This year has seen him gradually improve and climb positions to win in the Tyler’s Hardware and Rural Supplies Handicap over 8 kilometres, in a time of 39.42. We hope to see him back on the podium many more times.

Second placing, in a time of 40.33, went to David Hunter who is recovering from toe surgery but still managed first and third placings in recent races. David said that he tried to stay in touch with Terry for the last four kilometres of the race but Terry was just too strong. They crossed the line with only 11 seconds between them.

Third placing went to Simon Edge, in a time of 37.11. Simon joined the club this year and placed thirteenth and ninth and says that he is benefitting from his training in Halls Gap.

In the Sub Junior one kilometre event, Cella Atherton was pleased to be announced as the winner on handicap from determined chasers Olivia Hunter and Chloe Hunter.

There will be no race next Saturday for the Queen’s Birthday weekend. The following Saturday (16th) is the Telstra Shop Handicap at Cameron Road, Horsham.
