Naomi Hunter became our sixth winning female in the last seven races when she captured the Stawell Amateur Athletic Club division of the eight kilometre Best’s Cross Country Classic.
Now fully recovered from a nagging achilles injury, Hunter had reason to smile with a stunning two minutes to spare from evergreen Gary Saunders in the race the SAAC shares with the Stawell and Ararat Cross Country Club.
Another greybeard, Terry Jenkins, finished just just seconds behind Saunders in third place.
“I’m now running up to four times a week over distances up to eight kilometres and feeling no pain,
Hunter said. “I’m back thinking about running in another half marathon,” she said, “but I won’t get ahead of myself.”
In a thrilling one kilometre dash for the Amateur Sub Juniors, just nine seconds separated the first six to finish with Nate Lyons prevailing narrowly from Kelsey Hurley and Chloe Hunter.
Our club returns to Stawell this Saturday for the five kilometre Rupanyup Garden Centre Handicap.
Meet at the clubrooms from 9.30 am for a 10 am start.
