Stan’s Stunners Triumphant

Stawell Gold Mines 1.5km Relays

Ten teams of five runners each competed in the Stawell Gold Mines 1.5km Relays on Saturday, with ages ranging from 6 years to 62 years. Conditions were dry on the Ironbark course for the first time in 3 weeks, a welcome change.

Dugdale’s Destroyers started with their number one runner, Jon Dugdale, to take out an early lead just ahead of Kel Tyler from Steggall’s Super Specials. Patrick Ellis from Pumpa’s Pumpers came through in third position. Stan’s Stunners were quietly sneaking along with Lucy finishing mid field.

At the second and third change Ray’s Ramblers were in the lead, but later relinquished it on the fourth leg to Howden’s Hurricanes, who seemed to be the team to beat.

But Stan’s Stunners Sub-Junior runner Tobias put in a great leg along with Lucy, Jannik, John Collins and Team Captain Stan Watson to score a narrow victory from Howden’s Hurricanes, with Steggall’s Super Specials coming in third. All three teams finished within 28 seconds, a great effort on the part of our handicapper.

Fastest leg of the day went to Col Barnett, with a time of 4 min 49 sec. The fastest female was Jacinta Collier in 5 min 25 sec.

Aaron was the fastest Junior in a time of 5 min 35 sec, and Lucy the fastest Junior girl in 5 min 58 sec.

Nathan was the quickest Sub-Junior in a time of 6 min 23 sec with Sophie the fastest Sub-Junior girl in 6 min 35 sec.
