Davis Storms Home

A terrific turnout marked the first run of the Stawell Amateur Athletics Club 2024 season. Over 50 runners tackled the 5km, 3km and 1km distances across the Senior, Junior and Sub-Junior categories. The Ironbark Forest provided perfect conditions for the races.

Jakob Davis, a long-time member and all-round sportsman who enjoys running, claimed victory in the iconic and challenging 5km course. His dedication to pre-season football training was evident in his strong performance. Jess, who recently had a baby, displayed impressive form by finishing second. Rounding out the podium was the ever-consistent Leon Monaghan in third place. Mark Whyte clocked the fastest male time of 21 minutes and 57 seconds, while Jess was the fastest female at 25 minutes and 40 seconds.

The Juniors’ 3km race saw a thrilling finish, with Jerome Baker crossing the line first in a sizzling time of 13 minutes and 5 seconds. Tanner and Nash secured the following spots based on adjusted times.

The Sub-Junior race was another close contest. Beau secured the win with a time of 5 minutes and 3 seconds. Isla, in her maiden run, came in a close second, followed by Kade in third place.

Back at the clubrooms, a fundraising morning tea was held to support local club member Mark Whyte, who was affected by the Pomonal bushfires.

The next race is the S and K Watson 5k Handicap on Saturday, March 23rd. Members are asked to meet at the clubrooms at 9 am.
