Craig Takes the Day

Stawell Amateur Athletic Club held the Young’s Sports Power Handicap on Saturday with a record field of sixty-two runners. Thirty-one Seniors lined up for the start in mild overcast conditions.

Di Collins was the first runner away setting a steady pace in the 5 km race, soon to be chased hard by Alexia Duke. 2.5 km’s into the race the middle markers Craig Turner, Jacinta Collier and Phil Weight looked to be the big chances to win.

Finally Craig Turner proved that hard training and consisency does pay off, winning from Jacinta Collier with Alexia Duke holding off a fast finishing Phil Weight.

The fastest time went to Col Barnett in 17 min 44 sec. Jacinta Collier was the fastest female in a time of 19 min 46 sec.

A large Junior field of seventeen runners also ran the 5 km course.

Up and coming young Horsham runner Lucy put in a great effort up the last long hill to win by almost 1 minute, which will see the handicappers look closely at her mark.

The fastest time went to Marcus in time of 21 min 20 sec.

Fourteen Sub-Juniors lined up for the 1 km dash. Daniel ran a strong race all the way to secure his first win with the club.
