Opening of the 2015 Season

The President and Committee of Stawell Amateur Athletic Club extends to all members and officials, a warm welcome to season 2015 of cross-country running which enters a new era this year with a switch to morning runs from 10am.

This will free up time for many of our members who wish to have their afternoons free for other pursuits. We will not be returning to the clubrooms for morning tea as we will finish nearer to lunchtime at the venues and the presentations will be made there.

We must apologise to those few members who will be inconvenienced by the change which the committee felt necessary due, in part, to a decrease in numbers.

It’s for that very reason that we have had to suspend the Junior Competition, at least in the short term. Juniors turning 14s year of age during 2015 will now be permitted to run in the Senior events over distances up to 5km. They will only be permitted to run in longer races with the written permission of their parents.

We feel that this will encourage young runners seeking greater competition and better rewards for their efforts, racing against older and more experienced runners in bigger fields and welcoming the generosity of our sponsors.

Remaining will be a series of Sub-Junior events for youngsters up to 13 years of age, which will be conducted over distances up to 2000m.

To newcomers, we offer a special welcome. Our races are conducted in the spirit of friendly competition, over well marked mostly bushland courses from 3000m to 16000m, and are handicapped to cater for runners of all abilities to give everyone a chance of winning sponsor-donated trophies or prizes.
