Clark Wins At Three Jacks

Rhonda Clark held off some strong challenges over the closing stages of the the Stawell Sportspower 5km Handicap to take out her first win with the club for several seasons.

After a break of some years from running with the Stawell Amateur Athletic Club, Clarke is back and in good form.

A good field of 28 senior runners set off over the challenging course in ideal running conditions. Keith Haymes and Carolyn Lehmann led the field way, with Gary Saunders and Sarah Ellis not far behind.

At the half way point middle markers Bob Freeland and Rhonda Clark were setting a hot pace, but Nat Watson, Peter Blair and Emma Kelly were also in contention. Further back both Owen Roper and Ray Scott were also coming through the middle of the pack and gaining fast.
But Clark proved to have the fitness to hold her form over the final hilly section and sped down the long hill to the finish to win by 5 seconds over Bob Freeland, with another 12 seconds back to Gary Saunders, who ran well to place third.

The in form Nathaniel Warren again notched up the fastest time of the day with a good time of 19 minutes 5 sec. Susie Ellis was the fastest female with 21 minutes 12 sec.

The juniors also ran over the same 5km course and made their presence felt mixing it with the senior runners. Emily Parnaby charged down the hill to the line in front, with Liam Scott hot on her heels, but Parnaby had enough sprint left to hold Scott at bay and crossed the line in the fastest junior girls time of 24 minutes 25sec.

Liam Scott was second in the fastest junior time of 23 minutes 24sec. Bianca Robertson ran well for third.

In the sub-junior 1km event, Aleesha Robertson came home strongly to hold out Liam Burns, taking the win in the fastest sub-junior time of 4 minutes 14sec. Liam Burns was second in the fastest sub-junior boys time of 4 minutes 29sec. Somer Darnell ran strongly to come home third.
