Axel Meumann Scores Another Airport Win

A large field of runners tackled the Lindsay Kent Memorial Sealed Handicap, and 8km Championship race, held near the Stawell Airport.

In what will now be an annual event, both Stawell Amateur Athletic Club and the Ararat and Stawell Cross Country Club combined races for the day, with a teams event between the two clubs.

Unfortunately, not having the ASCCC runners results at hand, this report only covers the SAAC runners.

Twenty-seven senior SAAC runners headed off over the bushland course, with Col Barnett the first to reappear and cross the line first, taking out the senior championship section in a time of 32min 37sec.

Garry Rice was not far behind and Gary Howden third. Fastest female and Open Womens Champion was Ilana Jorgensen, in a time of 38min 44sec. Alexa Duke was first in the Vet Womens Championship section.

After handicaps were applied, Axel Meumann came up trumps for the second year in a row! Sharon Howden was second with Garry Rice third. Meg Parnaby came in fourth for the second week in a row.

The junior runners tackled an out and back 4km course, with Daniel Faravoni taking out the Junior Boys Championship in a time of 15min 48sec.

First girl home and Junior Girls Champion was Emily Parnaby, in a time of 17min 54sec.

After handicaps were applied, Emily Parnaby had run well enough to win, from Daniel Faravoni with Nat Watson third.

The sub-juniors ran a 1km out and back race, with Elly Barnett the handicap winner, from Tobias Blair, with Georgia Barnett third. Liam Scott was the fastest sub-junior boy in a time of 4min 50 sec. Elly Barnett was the quickest sub-junior girl in a time of 5min 19sec.
